Scenic Drives and Lookouts Trail

The journey to get there can be just as much fun as the destination itself!

Planning a visit to discover Murrindindi Shire? Did you know there are numerous scenic routes you can take? And one of the best bits, they’re all within a few hours of Melbourne.

Murrindindi, or Dindi as the locals like to call it, is renowned for its breathtaking scenic drives and lookouts, each offering a unique perspective on the region’s diverse landscapes.

Escape by car or bike and tour around this spectacular part of Victoria’s High Country. Take a drive up and over the Great Divide, wind through lush rainforests, stop off in charming towns and villages and admire the spectacular views at a lookout or two along the way.

Explore The Dindi Trail touring loop taking in the majestic Black Spur, epic views over Lake Eildon on Skyline Road and the Dindi Arts Trail through the Kinglake Ranges. Venture slightly off this trail and wind your way along the Murchison Gap through Strath Creek and Flowerdale, stopping off at the Lookout to take in the epic views of the Valley of a Thousand Hills.

On the hunt for that perfect lookout that will take your breath away? There’s plenty of other contenders too, from the ultimate sunrise and sunset locations to quiet places of contemplation. Take in the awe-inspiring views of rolling hills, pristine lakes and mountain ranges, with a bunch of bucket-list worthy vantage points to explore.

Break up the journey with a meal along the way at a local bakery, cafe or historic country pub. Enjoy a tipple at a winery, brewery or distillery, scattered throughout the region, or pick up supplies at a local market or produce store to enjoy.

Gather the family for a daytrip to remember. Better still pack the car for a romantic weekend away or a mid-week staycation with friends choosing from the many accommodation options on offer.
