Myrtle Gully Circuit

The Myrtle Gully Circuit is one of several hiking and walking trails within the Toolangi State Forest which can easily be combined to create an even longer day hike. These include the Tanglefoot Loop (10.5km) and Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk (2km).

The trail is approximately 8km in length and may take anywhere up to 2-3 hours to complete. It loops around the lush forest filled with boardwalks, creek crossings, ferns, tall Mountain Ash and other greenery, and you can be assured that the ground will be muddy with some streams flowing down the trails in wetter months.

* Please note the trail can become quite muddy after rainfall so it's best to wear proper hiking shoes and prepare to get a bit dirty as you trek through the rainforest. Look out for possible streams flowing over the trails and keep in mind you may encounter a few obstacles over the path which may require you to duck under or climb over to get past. Hiking poles may come in handy for additional stability in muddy areas.

GETTING THERE

As the Myrtle Gully Circuit is a loop it can be  accessed from several spots along the length of the trail. The first one is by the Wirrawilla Car Park in the Toolangi State Forest at the end of Quarry Road, off Sylvia Creek Road.

The start of the Myrtle Gully Circuit can be found by following the signs to the Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk (note: do not follow the Tanglefoot Loop). As you start this walk you will cross a bridge and then see a trailhead to the right that marks the start of the Myrtle Gully Circuit and on the left the Wirrawilla Rainforest Walk continues.

The second one can be accessed via Tanglefoot Picnic Area Car Park further along Sylvia Creek Road. You can choose to go clockwise (left) or anticlockwise (right) at the trailhead from here.
