This loop works well in either direction, taking in some great secluded gravel trails and views of Lake Eildon and the broader High Country.

Leaving the township of Alexandra you’ll kick start the day on the gentle gradients of the Great Victorian Rail Trail. Taking a back route of mixed bitumen and gravel, climb slowly up the valley until a short sharp kick takes you to a great viewpoint as you cross the hilly range. A pleasant roll downhill amongst wide farmland and more rail trail riding leads you all the way into Bonnie Doon. Meandering around Lake Eildon you’ll get great views before putting in the hard yards climbing up amongst bushland with Lake Eildon behind until you gain the summit of the climb and more awesome views. From this final highpoint views in both directions are there to enjoy before a a choice of sealed or unsealed descents back to Alex (as the locals know it) for a well earned meal and cold beverage in town.
